Following weeks of protest by hundreds of offended Catholics, French demonstrators have destroyed two photographic works by artist Andres Serrano. The principal object of acrimony, “Immersion (Piss Christ)”, was a photograph of a crucifix submerged in the artist’s own urine and photographed with the purported aim of problematising the “misuse of religion”.
